Vietnam – Getting to know Ho Chi Minh City
Formerly known as Saigon, this southern metropolis is home to some of Vietnam’s best eateries from curbside stalls at Ben Thanh Market to fine dining establishments and everything in between. The city buzzes with an energy all its own, making it a must-visit stop on any journey through Vietnam.
Having experienced a complex colonial past, the former Saigon was liberated in 1975, marking the end of a historical chapter and a new beginning, named in honor of ‘Uncle’ Ho, the revered revolutionary leader. Despite the official name change, many locals and visitors still affectionately refer to it as Saigon.
