A sacred town nestled along the banks of the Ganges, Haridwar is one of India’s seven holy Hindu cities and offers a captivating spiritual experience. Though less visited than some destinations, it’s easily accessible by rail from Delhi and serves as a serene counterpart to nearby Rishikesh.
A Sacred Legacy
According to legend, Haridwar was sanctified by Lord Vishnu’s footprint, said to be imprinted on the riverbank. This site has drawn pilgrims for centuries and remains a center of devotion and ritual.
Evening Aarti Ceremony
One of the most mesmerizing experiences in Haridwar is the evening Ganga aarti — a spiritual ritual that takes place at dusk along the ghats. As priests emerge from doorways and balconies, the air fills with the sound of chanting and the glow of swinging fire lamps. Worshippers release small floating lamps onto the river, creating a shimmering trail of light across the water.
